Do you have the requirements for a scaffold but are not permitted to mechanically or physically tie it into the structure?

Typically an independent scaffold is built as normal but instead of mechanically tying the scaffold into the fabric of the building a buttress is built of the independent scaffold. Any freestanding access scaffold structure must be designed as it does not fall within the parameters of TG20. As each freestanding access scaffold must be uniquely designed, and each project will differ. Many considerations will be taken into consideration when designing the scaffold such as ground space to build the buttress, if we can abut to the building with the independent scaffold, how high the independent scaffold and buttress will be, these are a few factors that we will be considered when carrying out our site survey.
If you are very limited on ground space to build the buttress then we also have other options to ensure that the scaffold can be built. Obviously narrowing the scaffold and buttress presents challenges in the design process but we can overcome this by designing kentledge into the buttress. Kentledge is a form of ballast that can be achieved by using many different objects such as water, concrete, sand or steel. We typically like to use food grade IBC’s filled with water, we believe this is the safest and most efficient way to achieve the amount of kentledge required but are willing to use whichever materials are suited to the specific job.
Freestanding Access Scaffold’s can also be in the form of a HAKI type staircase’s. Again there are many different scenarios where a freestanding staircase may be required but typically we tend to build them on cladded or listed buildings where the client has work to do on the roof only.

Awareness training for Scaffolders Undertaking Licensable work with Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s)
Training is given to all scaffolders who are involved in Licensable work, and this is refreshed annually. This training involves how to avoid exposure when working near asbestos, the different types of asbestos, how asbestos fibres cause diseases, types of diseases and how they are related to exposure.
In addition, they are also taught how to recognise when expose has occurred; how to deal with minor and gross contamination and decontamination and what RPE and PPE to wear and when.
